I too enjoyed hearing how he approaches his own poetry its neat to hear that he experiments with other forms of poetry. I believe there have been a number of British anthologies of cricket poetry, so I wasn't surprised that Mark was able to find enough quality New Zealand cricket poetry for an anthology. Science fiction poetry ... cricket poetry ... all sorts of anthologies are possible!

(Serious question: has there even been an anthology of New Zealand poems about yachts or sailing?)Tim Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14856414700019368658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3264914780516321436.post-27107805901728973722012-05-01T20:12:48.236+12:002012-05-01T20:12:48.236+12:00What a great interview. I've learned so much here, from the very idea of cricket poetry (who knew? well, obviously Mark did!) to the triolet and Mark's comments on form and creativity to historical research on past poets (I really must look into these late 19th C NZ poets who were into triolets -- very interesting stuff). Thanks for this -- another extremely worthwhile visit to your site, Tim.Michelle Elvyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00503119577895402738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3264914780516321436.post-10569219252093253162012-04-28T12:10:38.129+12:002012-04-28T12:10:38.129+12:00Madeleine also posted a comment that Blogger (whic...Madeleine also posted a comment that Blogger (which is having some technical issues at the moment) refused to post, or deleted, or something:

"thanks tim, thanks mark, two people who do so much for the world of poetry.

yes to recklessness, yes to weirdness. the other day, i met gary snyder who said his recent work is 'weirder'

and i like the white stripes poem, and that 'anything can happen' "

Thanks, Madeleine. So I decided to pretend no such comparison was possible.

Helen, I would love to come to Nelson and read in a yurt!

The funny thing is that I know someone else who is/was constructing a yurt. I really appreciated the point that there is no need for consistency between one poem and the next. I love the quote about new recklessness from James Fenton.

Yesterday I was berating myself for having a lazy day, and this interview with Mark hasn't done much to make me feel better, Tim!

(I am fascinated by there being a yurt outside a pub, too.
